Week 12

The first-trimester fog starts to lift — here's what's actually going on, and what helped us.

Last updated 22 May 2026

Week 12 is a bit of a turning point. For a lot of people the worst of the nausea starts to ease, energy creeps back, and the end of the first trimester feels within reach.

What’s happening

You might notice a little more appetite, fewer trips to the bathroom at 4am, and — if you’ve been waiting to share the news — this is around when many families start to.

The lifestyle bits

  • A pair of trousers with a forgiving waistband becomes your best friend
  • It’s a lovely time to start a little keepsake — a weekly bump photo, a note to baby
  • If you’re travelling, comfy layers and snacks make all the difference

Common questions

Is 12 weeks a common time to announce a pregnancy?
Many people choose to share their news around the end of the first trimester, but there's no right time — it's entirely your call.
Why might I have more energy at week 12?
For lots of people the first-trimester tiredness and nausea start to ease around now as the body settles. Everyone's different though — if you're still wiped out, that's normal too. Your midwife is the best person to ask about anything that's worrying you.
